Primary Mental Health Nurse
Location: Victoria | Employment Type: Full-Time / Part-Time
Our client is seeking experienced Primary Mental Health Nurses to deliver high-quality mental health care in a primary health setting. This is a unique and highly rewarding opportunity to work in a specialised correctional health environment, providing evidence-based care that supports patient wellbeing and helps prevent and manage self-harm or suicide.
About the Role
As a Primary Mental Health Nurse, you will:
- Deliver comprehensive mental health services to people in custody.
- Conduct At-Risk assessments and develop recovery plans for patients at risk of self-harm or suicide.
- Collaborate with Medical Officers, Mental Health Nurse Practitioners, and multidisciplinary teams to implement treatment plans.
- Participate in case management, discharge planning, and custodial health meetings.
- Provide mental health consultation for primary health nursing staff.
- Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) while ensuring confidentiality.
- Support accreditation, compliance, and health promotion initiatives.
This role requires flexibility, independence, and the ability to work within a secure prison environment.
About You
- Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration.
- Professional qualifications in Mental Health.
- At least 12 months of recent mental health nursing experience within the last 3 years.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity and Workplace Health & Safety principles.
- Strong communication skills and professional judgement.
Additional Requirements
- Valid full Australian driver’s licence.
- Capacity to work in a correctional environment, including direct patient interaction.
- Satisfactory National Criminal History Check.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Willingness to work outside normal business hours, including participation in an on-call roster.
