About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Dietitian for a hospital-based locum role in Regional Victoria, approximately 6 hours from Melbourne. This is a full-time position, commencing 10 March 2026, for an initial 12-week (3-month) contract, with the potential for extension.
This opportunity is ideal for a confident and capable clinician with strong acute and outpatient experience, who enjoys working autonomously while also providing leadership and support to junior staff. Accommodation and travel are provided, making this an excellent regional locum opportunity.
You will join a team of four dietitians, delivering high-quality, evidence-based nutrition care across a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services within a regional hospital setting.
Role Details
- Location: Regional VIC (approx 6 hours from Melbourne)
- Start Date: 10 March 2026
- Duration: 12 weeks / 3 months (with possible extension)
- Hours: Monday to Friday | 38-40 hours per week
- Rate: Up to $79.15 per hour, depending on experience

Key Responsibilities
Inpatient Services
- Manage a shared inpatient caseload across a team of four dietitians, including:
- ICU
- General medical wards (surgical, neurological, and rehabilitation)
- Paediatrics (sole dietitian for paediatric inpatients)
- Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments, develop care plans, and complete follow-up reviews
- Deliver evidence-based nutrition interventions for complex and acute presentations
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in line with hospital policies and professional standards
Outpatient Services
- Independently manage the Home Enteral Nutrition (HEN) Program, supporting approximately 30 patients with PEG, NGT, and PEG-J feeding at home
- Provide clinical support and guidance to Grade 1 and Grade 2 dietitians within:
- Outpatient oncology services (chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiotherapy)
- Outpatient paediatric Type 1 diabetes clinic
Leadership & Professional Responsibilities
- Provide formal supervision to Grade 2 dietitians
- Support junior staff with complex cases and clinical decision-making
- Contribute to and present at the Food and Nutrition Committee, with a focus on malnutrition risk management
- Hold the dietetic phone, responding to service enquiries on behalf of the team
- Collaborate closely with medical, nursing, and allied health teams to deliver patient-centred care

To Be Successful, You Will Have
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Dietetics or Nutrition & Dietetics (accredited)
- Current APD (Accredited Practising Dietitian) status with Dietitians Australia (essential)
- Australian working rights (essential)
- National Police Clearance
- Strong clinical experience in acute hospital settings
- Confidence working independently across inpatient and outpatient caseloads
- Experience supporting or supervising junior staff (highly regarded)
